The employment market

Compared with other countries, a very high proportion of the adult population in Norway is in employment. This is due in particular to the fact that women in Norway are largely in employment. Seven out of ten women and almost eight out of ten men in Norway are in employment.

The general educational level in Norway is high, and there are few jobs that do not require some form of qualifications or education. It is therefore important to have formal educational competence and work experience if you are to find a job in Norway. It is also typical for Norwegian workplaces that new technology is introduced quickly. This means that basic skills in the use of computers and digital tools are important.

While you can get by with English in some industries, Norwegian employers generally apply strict requirements as regards mastering Norwegian.
