Pregnant women can attend pregnancy check-ups at a public health centre or at their primary doctors. Public health centres provide pregnancy check-ups with a midwife. It is possible to combine pregnancy check-ups at both a health centre and with your primary doctor. From the 17th to the 19th week of pregnancy, the local maternity department offers a free ultrasound scan.
Pregnancy check-ups are exempt from patient charges.
Childbirth
Childbirth usually takes place in a hospital or maternity clinic to which the pregnant woman has been referred. It is free to stay in hospital in connection with childbirth. As a rule, mother and child are discharged from the hospital after two to four days.
