The Directorate of Health is a sector directorate under the authority of the Ministry of Health and Care Services and the The Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion. The Directorate of Health works to improve the social security and health of the population as a whole.
Among other things, the Directorate is responsible for:
- Monitoring and offering advice on public health, living conditions and developments in the healthcare sector.
Ensuring that adopted policies are implemented in the healthcare sector.
- The municipalities are responsible for providing the necessary health services for their inhabitants – including immigrants.
The county authorities are responsible for ensuring that dental health care services, including specialist services, are available to all permanent and temporary residents of the county.
The regional health authorities are responsible for ensuring that people with a permanent address or residence in the health region have access to specialist health services.
