It is the responsibility of the Norwegian Customs Service to protect society against the illegal importation and exportation of goods through efficient controls. The Customs Service also collects customs and excise duties on behalf of the government. The agency is under the authority of the Ministry of Finance, and the organisation is divided into a central directorate and six local customs regions.
